Rpm is the average peak height of the roughness profile, as defined in ASME standards. It reports the valley or dale depth excluding noise, dirt, odd scratches, etc., that aren’t part of the surface we care about. The same calculation can be performed on the waviness profile (Wpm) or primary profile (Ppm).
Rp, Wp, Pp, Rpm, Rv, Wv, Pv, and Rvm are surface texture parameters that measure the Average Peak Height, Dale depth, and Valley Depth of a surface. These parameters help us understand the peak height or the valley or dale depth excluding noise, dirt, odd scratches, etc., that aren’t part of the surface we care about. The ISO and ASME standards have different parameters for these averages, and we go through them in this video.
