Ra is the average roughness of a surface texture, and it’s the most common surface roughness parameter. It’s also known as the arithmetic mean height, per the ISO standard. Ra is calculated from the roughness profile, but we can also perform this calculation on the waviness profile (Wa) or primary profile (Pa).
