Rdc, Wdc, Pdc, Material Ratio Height Difference

The Rdc (Wdc, Pdc) surface texture parameter is the Material Ratio Height Difference. It’s a way of looking at a particular zone of roughness, or waviness, or primary data. The dc parameters are based on the material ratio curve which helps us describe the peak, core, and valley regions of a surface texture. Learn more … Read more

Rmrk2, Rmr2, Rak2, A2, Rvo – Material Ratio & Area of Dales

Rmrk2, Rmr,2, Rak2, A2, and Rvo are surface texture parameters in the Rk Parameter family. Like Rk, Rpk, and Rvk, these parameters are derived from the material ratio curve (bearing ratio curve). They let us analyze the valleys of a surface texture independently from the core and peak regions, describing the area of dales (valleys) … Read more

Rmrk1, Rmr1, Rak1, A1 – Material Ratio and Area of Hills

Rmrk1, Rmr1, Rak1, A1 are surface texture parameters in the Rk Parameter family. Like Rk, Rpk, and Rvk, these parameters are derived from the material ratio curve (bearing ratio curve). They let us analyze the peaks of a surface texture independently from the core and valley regions, describing the material ratio and area of hills. … Read more

Rvk, Pvk – Reduced Valley/Dale/Pit Depth – Rk Parameters

The K Parameters (Rk surface texture parameters) are derived from the material ratio curve. Rvk, the Reduced Valley/Dale Depth, lets us analyze the valley regions of the roughness profile separate from the peak and core regions. The same calculation can be applied to the primary profile to obtain the Pvk parameter. View all the parameters … Read more

Rpk, Ppk – Reduced Peak Height – Rk Parameters

The K Parameters (Rk surface texture parameters) are derived from the material ratio curve. Rpk, the Reduced Peak Height, lets us analyze the peak regions of the roughness profile separate from the valley and core regions. The same calculation can be applied to the primary profile to obtain the Ppk parameter. View all the parameters … Read more

Rk, Pk – Core Height – Rk Parameters

The K Parameters (Rk surface texture parameters) are derived from the material ratio curve. Rk, the Core Depth, lets us analyze the core regions of the roughness profile separate from the valley and peak regions. The same calculation can be applied to the primary profile to obtain the Pk parameter. View all of the parameters … Read more

Material Probability Curve

The Material Probability Curve maps the Material Ratio Curve onto a probability scale. The Q parameters (Rq, Rpq, Rvq) are very useful for describing the core, peak, and valley regions of surfaces with very discrete roughnesses, as you might find on a plateaued surface. Material Ratio Curve

The “material ratio curve” tells us how much material we encounter (as a percentage) as we slice through a surface at various depths. You may also see it called the Abbott-Firestone Curve (based on the two engineers who developed it) or the Bearing Ratio Curve. The Material Ratio Curve tells us about the peak, core, … Read more
