Metal ruler.
In OmniSurf3D, display the Wavelength Content Graph. When you drag the crosshair across the tick marks the strong 0.5 mm period will produce a tall spike in the Wavelength Content graph (we should hope so, or this would not be a very good ruler!)
OmniSurf3D Hint: hold down the ALT key while you drag the cursor to keep it parallel to the X axis, or hold down the SHIFT key to keep it parallel to the Y-axis.
